MTFC, DSA and WYC, Thoubal won convincingly against their respective opponents in qualifying round matches of the 55th Sir Churachand Singh memorial football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
M. Jotin Singh fashioned an early lead for Wangkhem Youth Club in the 13th minute and later S. Lalabi Singh, anticipating a chip pass from W. Padma Singh, got the better of the New Lamka keeper to loft home his team’s second goal in the 42nd minute.
Wangkhem Youth Club raced up further, as Y. Bipin Singh scored the third goal off a rebound in the 57th minute.
The New Lamka team got their break as Jamthianlal’s goal opened their account. However, N. Olen Singh scored again for Wangkhem Youth in the 72nd minute. New Lamka scored in the 83rd minute with Jamthianlal fetching another goal. Wangkhem Youth Club’s M. Jotin Singh scoring an injury time goal for the 5-2 victory.
In another qualifying round match, MTFC outplayed CWC, Moreh 7-0 with VS Somotha (36th, 81st, 89th) and Ngasungam (58th, 60th, 62nd) completing hat-tricks after Th Joy had opened the scoring in the 29th minute, WYC outlasted NLYC, Churachandpur 5-2.
