NEROCA ousted from Royal Cup


Kohima, November22: Asian’s late strike helped Peren District Football Association (PDFA) to reach the quarterfinals in the ongoing 20th Royal Gold Cup played at local ground, Kohima on Tuesday.

He scored the all important goal in the 86th minute of the match against NEROCA, Imphal, when the match seems heading for a tie-breaker. Asian collected a well calculated pass by Khaunjang inside the danger zone to push the ball into the net beating rival custodian, M. Raj.

In the injury added NEROCA got an opportunity, but PDFA’s player Khaunjang made a brilliant saved of the shot taken by Mahesh Rai for a corner kick.

Earlier, right after the first whistle in the 30th second of the match, the trio combine of  Vandona,  Satish and Chakravorti nearly gave the NEROCA the lead, but the diving custodian of PDFA  Peisuidibe collected the right footer shot of Chakravorti.

NEROCA boys also wasted another opportunity in 47th minute, when Mahesh Rai had his shot blasted wide outside, after M. Ashok shot was blocked by Peisuidibe.

PDFA also wasted two scoring opportunities in the midway of the second session from captain Kethozhapu in the 52nd and 56th minutes.  NEROCA’s striker M. Sushil messed up a scoring chance in the 84th minute, while in the 73rd minute Chakravorti was cautioned with a yellow card by the referee.

Meanwhile, the quarterfinals will start on Wednesday, the Denzong Boys Sikkim team will have six foreign players in their squad, however only three players will be allowed to play in the match according to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) rules.


Haipi Youth Club past Team Rainbow

KANGPOKPI, Nov.22: While the first match of 4th MMC-2011 at Kangpokpi today ended with a walked over Haipi Youth Club defeated Team Rainbow Kangpokpi by 2-0.

The first match was scheduled to be played between Maohing Youth Club and Kangpokpi Youth Union. Since Maohing YC didn't turn up for the match KYU got walked over.

In the second match played between Haipi Youth Club and Team Rainbow Kangpokpi, Kaikhogin (19) and Paolenlal (18) scored for Haipi YC side in 22min and 31 min. respectively.

At L.S. Playground Motbung ETS Motbung blanked MYA (A) 1-0 in the first match while RMT defeated LUB 4-1 in the second match.

Elimhao scored for LUB while Jangneo and Hegou scored 1 goal each and Chonminlal scored two for  RMT.

Tomorrow at Brig. M. Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi Kaggui Christian College will clash with FC.Concord (A)
In the first match while FC.Golngai meets JSYC (J.Songtun) in the second match.

At Keithelmanbi Playground FC Repeat meets Koubru Soccer 11 in the first match while MYC(B) will clash with SGAYO.

Gamgiphai YC  will clash with United Gorkha Eleven in the first match at L.S.Playground(Motbung) while K.Ponlen meets Luwangsangol YC in the second match.
