Hero Junior I-League:TRAU pip FC Imphal City 3-2

IMPHAL, April 22 : TRAU, Kwakeithel came out of the poor run to earn first home win in the Hero Junior League Imphal Zone organised under the supervision of All India Football Federation at Turf, Khuman Lampak today beating FC Imphal City by 3-2 goals. Birachandra Memorial Sporting Club (BMSC) were able to extend their lead at the league table as they played out a goalless draw with NEROCA FC in another match of the day.

TRAU suffered back to back loses to BMSC and NEROCA FC in their previous ties after a resounding start to the tournament, but the team proved its superiority to FC Imphal City by staging a superb comeback after trailing 2-0 in the first half to clinch a 3-2 win.

FC Imphal City took off the game on a positive note as Aheibam Pariton opened up the scoring in the 26th minute before Salam Bhim Meitei doubled their advantage during the additional time of the first half.

TRAU however entered the field with more purpose after the break and it was substitute Laishram Abungo Singh who pulled back a goal for TRAU and reduced the margin by 1 goal. With the morale boosting goal, TRAU picked up the pace of the game and drew level with the help of Yumnam Monish in the 72nd minute of the match.

The two sides toiled hard to find the difference in the later part of the game but could not really made their efforts count until Mahesh Singh Yumnam grabbed the late winner in the 89th minute giving no time to the rivals for a comeback.

The other match played between BMSC and NEROCA was a keen affair as the two teams who are at the same points from earlier three matches looked to stay clear ahead of one another. Hosts BMSC and NEROCA had a cautious start denying one another from making the breakthrough for a huge portion of the first half but NEROCA were able to break the deadlock in the 44th minute of the match off a penalty kick dispatched by Yumkhaibam Amit.

NEROCA almost clinched all three points as BMSC’s efforts were dealt carefully by their defence line for almost throughout the second half but a stoppage time goal by Kharibam Pravananda helped BMSC salvaged a point and extended their stay at the top of the league table. Y Amit of NEROCA FC was yellow carded by the referee in the 9th minute of this match.

FC Imphal City will host BMSC in the next fixture on April 25 while TRAU will hosts NEROCA FC in another match.
