IMPHAL, Oct 8: USA, Khurai survived from relegation from the state league after defeating YWC, Thambal-khong 3-1 in the last match of the 6th Manipur State League football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Palmei Lanrailung scored at 25 minute to lead the match 1-0 from rival team YWC. His free kick from near the corner curled into the Thambalkhong net. His goal could lead just three minutes. Jetlee equalized at 27th minute.
USA's John Lalremsang Hmar added two goals in the 30th and 49th minutes. His goals led team's winning note.
The result improved USA’s place in the table to sixth on 11 points, same as TRAU and TRUGPU but with a better goal difference.
YWC finished 9th in the 10-team competition which was won by former champion NISA, Thangmeiband.
Joykisan Singh trophy was presented to NISA along with cash prize of Rs 2 lakh by Sports Minister DD Thasii who graced the closing function as Chief Guest.
MPSC pursed with Rs 1 lakh and lifted (L) Khumukcham Ongbi Leonlee Devi Trophy while AIM, Khabam bagged the prestigeous Fair Play trophy and Rs 50,000 as cash prize.
NISA's medio L Nabachandra adjuged as Player of the Tournament . Cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Martin Khumukcham Trophy was awarded to L Nabachandra . NEROCA's Th Vandona who scored 9 goals in the league won the top scorer award. Vandona was richer by Rs 20,000 and bagged a trophy.
