KIYC and TRUGPU win through penalties
Imphal, November 6: Penalties decided both matches played on the fourth day of the 55th CC Meet football tournament after normal period ended on identical 1-1 draws at Mapal kangjeibung today.
KIYC, Kshetri Iril Mapal of Imphal East edged past AMOFA, Moirang at 4-3 in sudden death. Manipur Stat league team TRUGPU, Nambol scraped past YWC, Thambalkhong 5-3 on penalties.
Earlier KIYC could lead after Md Rafi opened their goal acount from a flag kick by Gandhi Kamei only a minute from end of regulated time with AMOFA equalizing in the first minute of the final injury time through M Bidyasagar.
Both the goalkeepers of the teams managed two saves each and one player from either side missing the mark from the penalty spot led to the sudden death, Md Islauddin’s success and failure by Bishorjit ensured the KIYC to advance the next round of the Meet.
In the match between YWC and TRUGPU vied for a place to the second phase, Y Jetlee scored in11 minutes into play from a Y Sobha's fine cross .Jetlee's score remained lead 1-0 in the lemon break.
In the 63rd minute of the match , L Dewan levelled 1-1 . Dewan sent the ball home from a throw-in by Y Inao. Both the teams could not add more score till the end of regulation period. As 1-1 draw , penalties dicided the match.
In the shoot-out, all four attempts by TRUGPU resulted in goals while its custodians paved the way for his team’s passage to the next round with two saves. YWC's side converted only two spot kicks out of four.
