Imphal, Nov. 15: Tiddim Road Athletic Union is the first team to to secure a quarter-final berth in the 55th Sir Churchand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung after defeating the favourite Manipur Police Sports Club 2-0.
Tiddim Road opened its account as M. Sudhiranjan Singh headed the ball to home from a fine cross by Bankok Nameirakpam in the 32nd minute for the lead.
Manipur Police, the runners-up in the 6th Manipur State League, frustration grew further as N. Rakesh Singh struck with a close goalline shot, which caught the Police keeper on the wrong foot, to give Tiddim Road its second goal in the 71st minute for the victory today.
United Sporting Association will take on Anouba Imagi Mangal in the second pre-quarterfinal tomorrow.
