Mohammedan beat Langsning, reach final phase

NEW DELHI: Mohammedan Sporting continued their dominance and qualified for the final phase of the league, when they beat Langsning FC 2-0, in the 2nd Division I League match played at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday.

Mohammedan Sporting have won five and drew one match to reach 16 points. Stanly Cyprian scored the opening goal as soon as 9 minutes into the game while Sankar Sil doubled the lead in the 82nd minute.

Both teams had their chances in the first session, but it was Mohammedan who took the lead as soon as 9th minute when Stanly bulged the net with his right footer to give the lead to the Kolkata side.

Langsning was equal to the task and created many chances upfront, but alert Mohammedan custodian Arnab Das who foiled their moves created by them.

Changing over, Mohammedan looked contended by their one goal lead. They made very few attacks at the rival post and largely remained on the defensive mode.

On the other hand Langsning looked dangerous and many a times came very close to score the equaliser. But it was not their day it seems.

In the 82nd minute, Sankar Sil who came in as substitute tapped the ball in to to seal the fate of the match, when Langsning keeper Tungshang  Tharngachan made a mistake in collecting the ball inside the box and Sankar made no mistake to found the back of the empty net.

With 16 points from 6 matches, Mohammedan Sporting have qualified for the final phase. While Langsning, who stays at 13 points from 6 outing have to fight with Vasco SC for the second spot.



KGF thrash PIFA Colaba 3-1

NEW DELHI: Bangalore’s KGF Academy registered their second win on the trot, when they beat Mumbai’s PIFA Colaba 3-1, in the 2nd Division I League match played at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday.

Emmanuel Okoko opened the score for KGF in 39th minute while two minutes later the score was doubled by Amoes, Monday Ugboji scored third goal for KGF in 81st. Nagesha Swamy pulled one back for PIFA in 44th minute.

With this win KGF now have 6 points from six matches while PIFA is still searching for their first win with only 2 points from six outings.
