IMPHAL, Feb 17: Three NCC cadets namely Sandeep Singh, Nazerite Angkang and Rabindra Meitei of 14 Battalion NCC, Imphal have been selected to represent India junior football team. According to a PIB (DW) release, the trio was part of the Manipur NCC team which participated in the Subroto Cup held at New Delhi from November 3 to 25, 2011 in which 32 teams participated including teams from neighbouring countries.
The Manipur NCC team topped their Pool at the Group stage but lost in the semifinals to West Bengal NCC team, the eventual Subroto Cup champions, by a solitary goal.
The excellent performance of the team has given an opportunity to the youth of Manipur to represent the country at international level, the release informed and conveyed that NCC Group Commander Col JJ Verghese complimented team coaches Col A Hajela and Lt Col SK Sapam for organising and preparing the team for such outstanding performance.
