Churchill face Chirag Kerala

MARGAO: Churchill Brothers SC hope to continue with their impressive goal-scoring methods as they take on Chirag United Kerala in a 23rd round I-League clash at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Wednesday.

Churchill Brothers hammered Prayag United 5-2 in the last league clash providing impetus to Subhas Bhowmick’s mission of steering the team as high as possible. Though the team management are harbouring title dreams, realistically Dempo Sports Club seem too far ahead.

“I have always maintained that this team is fighting for the title. Nothing has changed, we are still in the hunt for the title,” said technical director Subhas Bhowmick.

Chirag United Kerala are fighting to save the drop and are not as strong as opponents that Bhowmick has faced before. However, the Churchill technical director believes Chirag United will be more difficult than any other team.

“They will come here with the intention of getting a point. That is more dangerous. They will not allow us to play our normal game and will pack defences. That will make things a lot difficult for us,” said Bhowmick.

Churchill will miss defender Denzil Franco while Raju Yumnam is yet to recover from injury.
Chirag United Kerala tasted defeat at the hands of Pune FC 0-3 in the previous match and technical director Biswajit Bhattacharya knows his side must make amends almost immediately.

The team has 17 points in their kitty, the same as Mumbai FC, and are only above the relegation zone on a better head to head record with the Mumbai side.
