Jacobs hat-trick spurs United Sikkim to 4-2 win over Aizawl FC

Gangtok: April 14, 2012: United Sikkim defeated Aizawl FC Mizoram by 4-2 in the ongoing 2nd division I league being played here at Paljor stadium on Friday. Captain Quinton Norman Jacobs scored a brilliant hat trick in a 4-2 important win over Aizawl FC Mizoram and the race to qualify for I league has been continued.
In the early minutes of the game Hiralal Chettri (14) solo effort was well rescued by the Mizoram defenders. Quinton after rested in the previous match due to the double booking nearly found a lead when his shot deflected in the near pose. Thoi Singh (12) missed a net from Mumtaj (23) corner. Daniel Bademi (30) headed a yard outside the top bar crossed by Mumtaj. Once again pressuring the defenders Thoi from the right plank crossed a magnificent which Sahensa (19) could not materialized. A little later an elegant left footed shot from Daniel was saved by keeper Kenneth (25) diving to his left. The early 10 minutes of the game was totally conquered by the host but failed to provide the lead. Mizoram’s Michael nearly scored from the close array following a counter attack. With two defenders Sandesh (5) Munmun (7) not playing in the game the Sikkimese defenders were looking feeble. In the mid section of the first half a good through ball from captain David to Lalthanpuia nearly cost expensive for the hosts. Captain Quinton Jacobs elegant free kick smacked the top bar from the 40 yard range. In the 38th minutes of the game Daniel head found the net fabricated by midfielder Mumtaj. Daniel successfully destroyed the deadlock giving the important lead to the host. A good looking attempt from Hiralal Chettri nearly added another lead to the score line. Sahensa shot from a long range hit the top bar. In the dying minutes of the first half Sikkim’s keeper Basant Singh made a glorious diving save placed by Michael. The half time score board remained 1-0.
In the early minutes of the second half a cross from Sahensa was well rolled by Daniel in the danger zone but captain Quinton could not add the another one for the host. In the 49th minutes of the game Mizoram’s captain David (8) scored a stunning in his solo run providing the equalizer in the game. A little later Daniel could not convert the penalty which hit the pose. It was Quinton to provide the lead for the host executing a superlative bicycle from the close range from Mumtaj corner kick in the 60th minutes of the game. Quinton was again brought down by defender Lalshhuanawma in the danger zone which awarded another penalty in the game. Quinton added his second and third for the United Sikkim in the 65th minutes of the game giving the host a solid clutch in the game. Bhaichung who replaced Hiralal was imperfectly tackled which found another penalty in the game where Quinton one again added a brace from the spot in the 81st minutes.  In the 89th minutes of the game Mizoram’s Michael (16) scored another but it was too late for the team to come back in the game.
With this win United Sikkim FC has once again scaled to the top of the table with 21 points followed by ONGC Mumbai with 20 and Mohammedan Kolkata with 19 points. Saturday’s clash between ONGC and Mohamadden is very much crucial and will decide the fate for both Mohammedan ad united Sikkim. Remaining teams has been eliminated from the run towards I league.
In today’s first match Kalighat MS Kolkata defeated Royal Wahingdoh Shillong by 2-0. Waheed’s (10) double goal in the 24th and 51st minutes of the match sealed the victory for the Kolkatians.
