New Delhi, October 31: Against the background of the I-League, the fact that the Mizoram Football Association has launched their Premier League has almost gone unnoticed.

All India Football Federation Technical Director Mr. Rob Baan who was recently a Guest of Honour at the newly introduced League is all praise for the initiative. “The Premier League is a great initiative which will help all talented players and provide a pathway for Professional Football,” Baan told the Aiff Media Team. Eight teams are participating in the inaugural edition of the League.

“The League offers a platform for a lot of youngsters to display their qualities. It also gives the coaches an opportunity to experience different systems and different formations,” Mr. Baan added.

“I was happy to see a lot of skillful players with good techniques. I hope the Coaches will use them and start the game involving the Goalkeepers and build up from the back instead of kicking aimless long balls,” he maintained. “The Goalkeepers need to throw the ball to the defenders and start building up from the back.” Mr. Baan further insisted keeping possession needs to be the priority instead of playing too many long kicks.

Mr. Baan who was in Aizawl for the implementation of the Grassroots Project, also had a meeting with Mr. Lal Thanraza, President of the Mizoram  Football Association (MFA) over the recently concluded Grassroots Instructors Course which had provided 24 coaches an opportunity to receive the Grassroots Instructors Certificate.

Mr. Scott O’Donell, who conducted the Course was very much impressed with the standards and stays convinced that the coaches are ready to implement the Grassroots Pilot Project which will kick-off by the end of November 2012.

Mr. Baan stays optimistic that under the guidance of Mr. Lalnghinglova Hmar, Honorary Secretary of the MFA, the first-ever Grassroots Project will be a success and will be used as a role model for other states in the future. The Technical Director has plans of implementing the Grassroots Development initiatives in six more states by 2013.
