Arrows upbeat as Bhaichung eyes United Sikkim debut

GANGTOK, Nov 03: United Sikkim will look to stop the unbeaten run of Pailan Arrows in the I-League when the two sides clash here at Paljor Stadium, in Gangtok, on Sunday (November 4).

Pailan Arrows coach Arthur Papas also knows that the home side will come hard against them but he has full confidence in his boys.

“Records are meant to be broken. But our unbeaten run is definitely a great feeling and gives confidence to the players. We want to maintain that record as long as we can. But the most important thing is we want to learn from each game. Even if we lose tomorrow, we will learn something”, he said to reporters in Gangtok.

Pailan Arrows have won two matches and drew one match in I-League before coming to the hilly State to face the home side United Sikkim.

“It will be a tough game tomorrow. United Sikkim are really good team and have three foreigners which we don’t have. But we do have more experience of playing in I-League compared to them. As the season progress, some of the players from this batch will blossom as very good players for the country”, said Arthur.

“We have not seen much of United Sikkim but that does not make much difference. We want to remain focused on our game”, said Pailan Arrows captain Shovik Ghosh.

Pailan Arrows arrived in Gangtok with their full squad and have no injury problems.

On the other hand, the home club would be missing two of their key players - striker Buddiram Tudu (injuries) and central defender Sandesh Jhingan (red card) for tomorrow’s match.

Safar Sardar has been roped in from East Bengal on loan to beef up the United Sikkim defence in absence of Sandesh.

“It is a huge loss for the team. We are having a good combination with each other in defence. The new player is also good and I hope we find good coordination soon”, said captain and central defender Anwar Ali.

United Sikkim co-owner Bhaichung Bhutia maintained that the players need to concentrate throughout the 90 minutes as in the last two defeats against East Bengal and Dempo the opponent had scored in the final moments.

“We have mostly new players and are inexperienced. Hence, we committed small fouls and we got punished by East Bengal and Dempo. We cannot afford to make mistakes in every match and try to make most of the home advantage. If we get three full points tomorrow then we will be going to our home matches on a confident note”, added Anwar.

A huge boost for the United Sikkim side will be player Bhaichung’s presence in the field.

“I will be definitely in the team but I am unlikely to start. It will be up to the coach and match position on when I play tomorrow which will be my first match for United Sikkim. I have regaining my fitness and I want to be available for the tough away matches we have this month”, said Bhaichung.

United Sikkim would be playing four consecutive away matches and the Gangtok based club will look forward to bag something from their fourth home match.

“It is a tough league and the away matches are always difficult. It is always good to generate points from home matches. Pailan Arrows is a very talented side and undefeated so far but we aim to beat them tomorrow”, he said.

The kick-off is at 2.30pm.
