Pailan Arrows win more hearts

New Delhi, Nov 19: The result may not be in your favour, but that cannot deter you from accomplishing your aim. On Sunday, November 18, 2012 the beautiful game saw a team made of U-22 boys called Pailan Arrows succumb to their second consecutive defeat but with such élan that perhaps defeat itself was shying away from them!

Arrows went down to Prayag United 1-2 but not before they gave the cash-rich team a run for their money. While Prayag United have moved up to the second position with 13 points, Arrows moved to the seventh spot.

Coming on the back of an epoch making 10-goal victory over United Sikkim in the last round, the Ranty Martins and the Carlos Hernandes’ blessed side must thank their stars to end up on the winning side after failing to match their great show in the previous match.

All credit goes to the boys in white and their coach Arthur Papas. Arrows were at it from the word go and after conceding the early goal scored by CK Vineeth in the 12th minute, the All India Football Federation developmental side denied Prayag any room whatsoever and looked the better side for most part of the 90 minutes. Lalkamal Bhowmick’s late winner from nowhere halted the anti-climax from taking place.

This round of the marathon league saw leaders Dempo relinquish their place to East Bengal who remained the only unbeaten team in the I-League after the former’s shock defeat to ONGC in the Capital. Trevor James Morgan’s wards continued their good billing as they comprehensively beat a strong Churchill Brothers side 3-0 in Goa.

Mridul Banerjee ended his short stint on a high after guiding Mohun Bagan to an impressive win against Salgaocar at home. Banerjee’s unbeaten run at the helm of affairs will make things easier for Karim Bencherifa will has already taken charge of the team.

Elsewhere, Mumbai FC extended their winning streak to two by mauling Shillong Lajong 4-1 while Sporting Clube de Goa returned to winning ways after getting the better of United Sikkim 2-1.

The match between Pune FC and Air India had to be postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.
