East Bengal held by Shillong Lajong

SHILLONG: East Bengal and Shillong Lajong shared a point each in the 9th round  match of the I-League here at the JM Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

East Bengal up front paired with Edeh Chidi  and Orji Penn failed to pose any challenge to the local custodian  Lalthuammawia Ralte, as Lajong’s North Korean defender Minchol Son, who was at the  end of the match declared man of the match, was a rock at the back.

The only moment East Bengal came close to break the deadlock was in th54th minute when  Lalrindika Ralte spurned a one on one chance. He instead took a first time shot which went wide flying high.

It was the locals who had been giving trouble to the visiting side but their effort went in vain. In the 88th minute of the game Sushil Kumar Singh took a  powerful shot from the danger arc which was well anticipated by red and golds goalkeeper  Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and averted it for the flag kick.

With this draw Lajong has eleven points while East Bengal has 21 points against  their account.
