Full strength Salgaocar take on Prayag United

MAPUSA, April 3: Salgaocar Football Club are delighted to welcome several of their key players as they tackle Prayag United SC in a 23rd round I-League clash at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Thursday.

The Tilak Maidan is the newest venue for Goa and will host its first I-League match under lights.

Salgaocar, who managed a goalless draw against Churchill Brothers in the last game, are now bolstered by the return of several players who were suspended, chief among them being Brazilian striker Josimar Martins.

“It’s a good thing to have all the players. Despite the absences, we did well in the last game. We will be much better against Prayag,” said Technical Director Peter Valles.

Besides Josimar, Salgaocar will also have the services of midfielder Rocus Lamare and striker Milagres Gonsalves, both of whom also remained suspended.

“We will miss OJ (Obatola), who remains suspended. We are yet to take a decision on who his replacement (upfront) will be,” said Valles.

Francis Fernandes played upfront in the last game, but with Milagres returning to the fold, he could be a straightforward choice. Marcus Mascarenhas also remains an option.

“We did well against Prayag in the away clash. We had our chances towards the end too but could not grab it,” said the Technical Director.

Prayag United have given up on the title and are now playing, at best, for the third spot with just four matches in hand.

Eeclo Schattorie’s men will be on a high after dashing, to a large extent, East Bengal’s title hopes with a 2-2 draw. Prayag United were down by two goals until Ranty Martins and Carlos Hernandez turned the match on its head.

Prayag United have 35 points in their kitty and are placed fourth behind Churchill Brothers (44), East Bengal (42) and Pune FC (37).

The match kicks off at 6.30pm.
