The Shillong outfit, who are reeling low with mixed luck for sometime, found their rhythm back with the win to take their tally to a total of eight points from six matches while the Arrows were languishing in the bottom half of the table with just two points from six matches.
Enjoying home support, Lajong started off as favourites. But the Arrows did throw in some challenge.
The Shillong men got their cherished moment in the 35th minute. Arrows keeper Naveen Kumar went outside the box to collect a ball, resulting in a Lajong free-kick.
Lalramluaha executed a well-flighted ball from the edge of the box, giving little room to a diving Naveen Kumar for the only goal of the match.
Though Arrows tried to regroup and go into the attack after the breather, the Lajong side guarded their citadel well. They defended in numbers, while going for counter attacks.
Arrows, however, did manage two strikes from skipper Milan Singh, but Lajong goalkeeper Soram Poirei stood firm under the bar. He was also adjudged for the man of the match award.
Soram felt on the top of the world after the match. He said: “I am happy with the win and elated to be named man of the match.”
The custodian, however, said that the real test for Lajong will be in their next match, when they take on Mohun Bagan on December 2.
Lajong earned seven points in their home matches. They defeated HAL SC in their first home match and held AIR India.
In another encounter at Nehru Stadium Fatorda, Sportin de Goa blanked Chirag United Kerala by 2-0. Dempo SC earned their winning streak after defeating Pune FC. With this win they got 18points to lead in the table. Defending champion Salgaocar SC held Prayag United 0-0 . (The Telegraph India)
