Apart from North Imphal, three other teams — Tiddim Road Athletic Union, North Eastern Reorganisation and Cultural Association and United Sporting Association — have already moved into the quarter-final stage and will be pitted against outstation teams in the final eight.
The last pre quarter-final encounter saw Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union surging up to give the North Imphal men a hard time in the match.
However, they made blunders with wayward shots to deny themselves goals in regulation time.
The North Imphal players had their chances, too, in the second half but seasoned campaigner M. Bijen Singh lofted a scoring opportunity too high over the bar for the goalless draw.
The penalty shootout saw NISA keeper L. Premkumar Singh making two fine saves from Tiddim Road Unique players G. Anthony Kabui and Kh. Jolly. However N. Rakesh, Sh. Meiraba and N. Dhananjay Singh found the net.
Except for S. Manimohan Singh’s kick, which was saved by keeper N. Ingo, other North Imphal players L. Ratan Singh, L. Nabachandra, P. Somorendro and Th. Borish Singh scored from their kicks for the victory today.
NISA players Micheal Joute and L. Ratan Singh and Tiddim Road’s T. Thomas Boy Zou were booked with yellow card. (The Telegraph India)
