Thangjalet Memorial Football tournament begins
Churandchanpur, December 3: Thangjalet Memorial Football tournament was inaugurated on 03 December 2011 at Public Ground at Churachandpur. The tournament was organised by 27 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) in commemoration of Late Havildar Thangjalet Haokip, Shaurya Chakra of Churachandpur. The gallant soldier made supreme sacrifice conforming to the highest traditions of the Security Forces and was awarded Shaurya Chakra (Posthumously) for his conspicuous bravery, undoubting courage and fearless determination in fighting and eliminating four terrorist in a fierce operation in May 2009.
The third edition of this very popular tournament is scheduled from 03 December 2011 to 17 December 2011. The tournament is open to clubs and has received ever increasing response from all quarters since its inception. The grand opening ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, followed by an opening prayer, brief about the event, a cultural show put up by local School Children and Group photograph with all the team captains.
The crowd arose and cheered for the local hero and applauded harder for the ceremonial kick off by Master T William Lalgunlen Haokip, son of Late Havildar Thangjalet Haokip, Shaurya Chakra.
