Japan team to tour Manipur


Imphal, Jan. 31: The Manipur Tourism Forum will invite 26 Japanese tourists for a three-day sojourn of the state, including a goodwill football match to bridge gaps among Southeast Asian countries.

Th. Dhabali Singh, the president of the tourism forum, told reporters today that its main agenda was to promote culture and sports tourism. A 20-member Japanese football team, FC Kickers, has been invited to play at Khuman Lampak main stadium on February 19. The team will arrive on February 18 and depart on February 20.

The convener of the forum, N. Ibungochoubi Singh, said they would work towards tapping the tourism industry in the state. “Our initiative will also focus on conserving and protecting environment and making Manipur a cultural and sports destination,” he said.

According to a source,  All Manipur Football Association's request for the match was accepted by All India Football Federation. The Match will be played between FC Kickers of Japan and Manipur XI. AMFA will prepare the state XI team for the exhibition match.
