NEW DELHI: Goa’s Vasco SC kept their hope alive to reach the final phase of the league, when they outplayed Mizoram’s Luangmual FC 3-1, in the 2nd Division I League match played at the Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on Monday.
Aiken Dias, Agnelo Colaco and Julius Akpele scored one a piece for Vasco while Malsawm Tlunga pulled one back for Luangmual in 70th minutes.
The hard fought match started with both the teams taking aggressive stance. Aiken Dias gave the lead to the Goan outfit just 10 minute into the game. He took the ball in the midfield and on a solo run found the back of the empty net with his clinical finish beating Luangmual defenders and custodian.
In the rest of the half, both the teams kept attacking each other forte without any success. However, the Mizo side didn’t play the way they have played their previous games.
Changing over, Luangmual played much better than the first half. They found the equaliser in the 70th minute, when Malsawm Tluanga took the advantage of the defensive lapse by Vasco defenders to restore parity.
But Mizo side jubilation was short-lived, as Agnelo Colaco came up with a blinder in 78th minute from outside the box which gave no chance to Luangmual custodian T Saitluanga and others, as they remained mute spectator.
Vasco’s Julius Akpele made it 3-1 with just three minutes left in the regulation time to crush any hope of Luangmual to make a comeback.
With this win Vasco now have 10 points from 5 outings while Luangmual stays at 5 points from 5 matches.
