U-20 League: Pune FC fly past Air India; Chirag win

NAVI MUMBAI: Meanwhile, Pune FC continued their sound form with a clinical 4-1 victory over Air-India in the U-20 Tournament for I-League teams in Navi Mumbai.

This was Pune FC’s second win on the trot and Thongkosiem Haokip (53rd minute), substitute Deepak Kumar (62nd), Thangjam Abung Meetei (67th) and substitute William Lalnunfela (80th) scored one each.

Air India reduced the margin through Siddharth Nayak.


Chirag Kerala beat HAL

NAVI MUMBAI: Chirag United Kerala rode on a brace from Rahul Raj to beat HAL 3-0 and register their first win in the U-20 Tournament for I-League teams being held in Navi Mumbai.

The first goal came in the 31st minute. Off a corner, the HAL defence failed to clear the ball only for Anoop Pauly to hammer in Chirag United Kerala’s first goal of the match.

Thereafter, the HAL defence was subject to a barrage of attacks but the Chirag strikers couldn’t capitalise.

The second goal for Chirag came in the 67th minute when Rahul Raj headed in a corner. Rahul Raj went on to score his second goal of the match in the 87th minute when he headed in Abhil’s curler from the left.

Earlier, Chirag’s Anoop Pauly hit the post in the 10th minute off a free-kick. Chirag also muffed up an easy chance in the 21st minute when Girish failed to beat the rival custodian after being set in the clear by Mousuf Naizan.
