IMPHAL, Apr 22: TYA, Thinungei defeated BMSC (A), Taobungkhok by the odd goal in three in the under-16 final of the Th Birachandra Singh Football Academy State Level Football Tournament at Taobungkhok Makha Leikai playground today.
H anand scored in the 30th and 51st minutes to help TYA clinch the title and Rs 25,000 prize while Kelvin scored for the Taobung-khok youngsters in the 50th minute. The runners-up side was awarded Rs 15,000.
In the under-13 final, Jemson and Boris scored in the 22nd and 35th minutes respectively as SKDC, Non-gpok Sanjenbam outplayed YOSC, Khurai to wrest the title and bag top cash prize of Rs 20,000. YOSC were awarded Rs 12,000.
The closing ceremony of the tournament was held with Patsoi AC MLA AK Mirabai Devi and Thang-meiband AC MLA Kh Joyk-isan Singh as the chief guest and president respectively.
MLAs O Lukhoi Singh (Wangoi) and Th Bishwajit Singh (Thongju) were the guests of honour.
Meanwhile, a PRO IGAR (S) release informed that 18 Sikh of 9 Sector provided administrative and material as- sistance in organising the tournament’s under-13 and under-16 finals.
The 18 Sikh provided sports items and contributed handsome amount towards the cash prize for winners and runners-up teams.
During the interaction, CO 18 Sikh said that the youths, if channelised in the right direction, will certainly adopt the right thing and bring laurels to the State.
He further said all possible help will be tendered to the players in all spheres, the release added.
