While India has taken part in no International football event since the AFC Challenge Cup debacle in Nepal, the country has risen by one place in the latest FIFA rankings to now occupy the 164th spot alongside Maldives.
India moved up a rung as Maldives dropped points to slide to a total of 122 points, the same as the Blue Tigers.
The country is also now ranked 31st amongst the 46 Asian teams in the rankings while they rose by a spot in the pecking order in South Asia too, as they are the joint third highest ranked team in the region, with Nepal, who are ranked 149th and Bangladesh at 152nd position, being ahead of India, who are tied with Maldives.
Savio Medeira’s side has no International commitments in the next couple of months, with the Nehru Cup, which may be held in August or September being their next possible assignment.
World champions Spain continue to top the FIFA rankings, with the only change in the top 10 spots being Argentina and Denmark, who have now swapped places and are the 9th and 10thbest ranked sides in the world.Australia, at the 21st spot, continue to be the highest placed Asian team, with Japan at 30th and South Korea at 31st following them as the second and third best placed Asian nations in the rankings.
Meanwhile Ukraine, who are set to host the Euro 2012 Championships this summer, slipped by one place to 50th in the table, while co-hosts Poland remain stationary at 65th position in the latest changes in the FIFA rankings.
