SHILLONG: Last edition's Champions Salgaocar Sports Club and Shillong Lajong FC shared points after they played a goalless draw in their last encounter of the I-League 2012/12 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex on Friday. Salgaocar finished their engagements on 44 points from 26 matches while Lajong ended at 28 points from 26 matches.
It was the local outfit who started on an aggressive note and missed two open scoring chances. In the 24th minute Sushil Singh missed to tap into an open net after being fed by Eugenson Lyngdoh. Had Sushil taken his time instead of playing first time the story could have been different.
And then in the 36th minute, Boithang Haokip failed from close – this time too, Eugenson stayed the feeder.Changing over, it was the tourists who dominated. Their series of attacks eventually earned them a penalty in the 79th minute when Zohmingliana Ralte brought down Milagres Gonsalves inside the box. But star striker Chidi Edeh blasted it wide.
