Sporting Clube host HAL Bangalore

MARGAO: Sporting Clube de Goa are aiming to finish on a high and are targeting full points against already relegated HAL Bangalore in their last I-League clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Saturday (May 5).

Sporting Clube have 37 points from 25 matches while HAL Bangalore stay at the bottom of the table with 8 points from 25 outings.

Sporting Clube technical director Alex Alvares, however, believes they have plenty to play for and the key will be to finish the season on a high.

“I know it’s the season end and our position will remain unchanged whatever the result may be, but the boys are eager to finish the season with a flourish. We have done all through the league and cannot afford to relax in the final game,”said Alvares.

Sporting are also looking at improving their scoring record in the league. Their 46-goalmark is third behind champions Dempo and Mohun Bagan.

Alvares said apart from Captain Samananda Singh, we would have a full strength side at our disposal. South Sudan striker James Moga and Victorino Fernandes, both of whom missed the last clash due to injury, have passed the fitness test and will be available for selection.

HAL are already relegated to the Second Division but several of their players will have an eye on the contracts for next season. A good performance in the final clash will be enough to attract attention from prospective clubs.
