East Bengal’s chance to seal No 2 spot

PUNE: Pride would be at stake for both Air India and Kingfisher East Bengal when they face each other in the 26th round I-League encounter at the Balewadi Sports Complex Stadium here on Saturday (May 5).

There would be a pride and a prize to fight for the runners-up position given that at least two more teams can stake claim for the position.
The Red and Gold brushed aside Sporting Clube de Goa 3-0, in their last match to crawl up to No 2 position with 48 points. East Bengal’s climb pushed Pune FC (46 points) down to No 3 position that at least kept some interest alive in the league after Dempo SC confirmed their title more than a week ago.

Tolgay will be the key, as does Edmilson Marques when they take on Airmen. With day temperatures hovering close to 38 degree Celsius, playing in the evening will give both teams an even ground.

On the other hand, Air India has nothing much to play for but pride. They are at the middle of the league standings, at No 9 with 32 points. Even a win will not change their position, but then the airmen would like to close the season on a high.
