KANGPOKPI,
Oct.29: The 17th 61 Mountain Brigade, Brigadier Thomas Trophy
Football Tournament commenced today at Brig. Thomas Ground Kangpokpi.
The
tournament opening ceremony was attended by Shri. Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman
ADC, Sadar Hills, Shri. Haokholien Guite, Executive Member (Library), ADC Sadar
Hills, Shri. Seikhosat Kipgen, Executive Member (Town i/c), ADC Sadar Hills,
Shri. Thanggoulun Kipgen, MDC, Shri. Angam Thanga, MDC as Chief Guest,
Functional President and Guest of Honour respectively.

Haokholien Guite while briefing the history of 61 Mt. Brigade, Brigadier Thomas
said that it was in the year 1975 that Brigadier Thomas took initiative part in
creating the present Thomas Ground where every sports loving individual in and
around Kangpokpi start making their career in the field of sports. While
acknowledging the good works by the Brigadier it was name after him as Brig.
Thomas Ground. He also said that, Army are Peace loving people. During the
inauguration function of the ground, Brigadier Thomas dedicated the ground to
the general public to promote peace and harmony through games and sports.
Speaking
on the occasion Shri. Haokholal Hangsing applauds the Organizing Committee of
the tournament for their well organized tournament and expresses his
expectation to know the tournament ends with good results.
He
also said that, a big library is due to be constructed at Kangpokpi to help
particularly the youths of Sadar Hills and the state in general.
Members
Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kangpokpi Youth
Union and Reverends from Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship also took part in
the opening ceremony.
The
Opening Match(Exhibition Match) was played between FC. Ninou and FC. Concord.
FC Ninou defeated FC Concord by 2-1.
