IE team ousted, TRAU to meet Nagaland Police


Kohima, Nov 21: A second half goal from Kivi Sumi helped Kohima Komets overcome Manipur's Imphal East FA 1-0 in a thrilling quarterfinal in the ongoing Royal Gold Cup played at local ground on Wednesday.

Komets would now meet the winner of the 3rd quarterfinal match between Barack FC and Shillong ARC in the semifinal on November 23.

Kivi who had been instrumental for his team victory during the previous matches, again rose on the occasion by converting the spot-kick in the 73rd minute to take his team closer in the hunt for the title.

Imphal East FC did not give up easily but fought till the end. Then in the 83rd minute, Imphal East FC came very close for the equalizer, but a powerful shot taken by Ramkumar hit the cross bar.

Komets marksmen’s Kezhose Khizho and Kivi Sumi missed number of opportunities in the second session.
Earlier, in the first session brilliant tactics and skill from both the players make the match livelier, but both teams failed to take the lead. Komets were awarded as many as opportunities as compare to Imphal East.

On Thursday, Nagaland Police would take on TRAU Manipur in the second quarterfinal at 1:30 pm.
