JSYC won 17th Brig. Thomas Trophy Championship title


KANGPOKPI, Nov.16: The 17th 61 Mountain Brigade, Brigadier Thomas Trophy 2012 ended with J.Songtun Youth Club winning the championship title by defeating Hengbung Youth Club in the final match by 5-4 in tie break at Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi today.

The month long championship was organized by the Kangpokpi Youth Union.

The championship closing ceremony was attended by Shri. Vungjagin Valte, Parliamentary Secretary, Horticulture & Soil Conservation and CADA, Smt. Nemcha Kipgen, MLA 50-Kangpokpi A/C, Shri. Chongpu Kipgen, MCS, Chief Executive Officer, SHADC/Kpi as Chief Guest, Functional President and Guest of Honour respectively. Maj. Marathe of 14 Assam Rifles of Kangpokpi Post and L.Vaiphei, OC Kangpokpi Police Station also attended the function.

Members of Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation and Kangpokpi Youth Union also attended the closing ceremony.

While speaking at the function, Shri V. Valte emphasis the need of unity and encourage the young player to promote peace and harmony through games and sports.

Smt. Nemcha Kipgen and Shri. Chongpu Kipgen emphasis the need to avoid drugs and the significance of discipline in games and sports to the player in particulars.

The winner of the championship were awarded a trophy with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 plus certificate while the runner-up got a shield with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 plus certificate respectively.

Tournament top scorer was awarded to Jampao of JSYC scoring 5 goals in the tournament while promising player award has been awarded to Boijoy of JSYC. Man of the Championship was awarded to Helun of Hengbung Youth Club while Best Goal-keeper award has been awarded to Mangpithang of JSYC.
