NISA in JSB Gold Cup final


IMPHAL, November 5: The North Imphal Sporting Association, NISA defeated Kolkatta club, ARYAN by 2-1 to reach the final of the 11th JSB Gold Trophy today.

The final match will be played on November 7 between the Imphal club and Assam State Electricity Board.

In the second semi final played today, S Herojit scored the first for the Imphal club in the 36th minute of play through a powerful free kick. NISA led by 1-0 till the end of the first half.

However, the one goal lead for the Imphal team didn’t last long into the second half as ARYAN’s Richard levelled the score in the 48th minute.

Michael Joute scored the winner for the Imphal club in the 81st minute by taking hte ball pass two Kolkata defenders.

The ARYAN team had three Nigerian players in its team line up.

It may be mentioned here that the last time the two sides met was in 1984 in the quarter final of the Sikkim Gold Cup which had also ended in a 2-1 win for NISA.

Meanwhile, the first semi final of the tournament played yesterday between Assam State Electricity Board and SAI, Kokrajhar ended with the former winning by 2-1.

NISA and Assam State Electricity Board had met twice before at the 31st Federation Cup qualifying round NE Zone in 2008 and at the 50th Independence Cup quarter final with NISA winning both matches.

NISA defeated the Assam State Electricity Board by 1-0 in the first meeting at federation cup, while in the second meeting by 2-1.
