Arrows challenge for out of form Dempo

VASCO, April 5: It’s unusual for Dempo Sports Club to be losing four matches in a row and Armando Colaco’s boys will look to break that jinx when they meet Pailan Arrows at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Saturday.

Dempo, until three rounds ago, were in contention for the title, although not favourites. But four losses in a row have killed their chances and left them with only pride to play for.

Colaco has blamed the teams’ poor performance in the last couple of rounds to “injuries” and “controversies”. But while the injuries have not improved and several continue to be on the sidelines, there has not been an end to the controversies.

Despite losing sight of the title, Dempo will be eager to atleast finish among the top three and depending on the other results, they can achieve that. The defending champions are currently placed fifth with 35 points but can overcome Prayag United and, counting on what happens in the other game between Churchill and Pune FC, can even sit third.

Pailan Arrows, on the otherhand, are placed eleventh on the table with 21 points from 20 matches. They were off to a good start and since then, have put in some heartwarming performances.

On Saturday, as they play at the Tilak Maidan for the first time this season, Arthur Papas will hope his young guns add to Dempo’s misery.
