Mohun Bagan look to maintain momentum

KALYANI, April 12: The continuing success of their fabled strike power is making the Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencherifa hope for an extension of his team’s winning form in the ongoing I-League. Mohun Bagan has been able to temporarily extricate themselves out of the depths winning three successive games.

With the striking combination of Nigerian Onyeka Okolie Odafa and Australian Tolgay Ozbey playing in the team’s a run of success, the Mohun bagan camp sounded upbeat ahead of their 24th round match against Air India in the Kalyani Stadium on Saturday (April 13).

“The Odafa-Tolgay combination is in good shape and that is giving us confidence,” said Karim ahead of their meeting against the airmen from Mumbai.

“We still have to keep working hard as the relegation threat is not completely over. The players are working hard and they understand the tasks they have to complete,” Karim said insisting on the need to keep the winning momentum going.

“Our opponents are good and capable of making upsets. But I am focused on our own objective which is getting as many points as possible,” Bagan’s Moroccan coach said looking at the 19 points that his team has gained so far from 20 matches.

“Mohun Bagan have a good attack with the likes of Odafa and Tolgay but a team does not get success because of two players. We will have plans for the whole side and would like to ensure that it works well,” said Air India’s new coach and former international Naushad Moosa.

“We are in the relegation zone and have to give our best. The players are well aware of this and would like to give their best to pick up a win,” he said. Air India have 19 points from 22 matches.

The kick-off is at 3.30 pm.
