Morgan and co. look maintain winning momentum

KALYANI, May 11: East Bengal will look to maintain their winning momentum they gained after beating United Sikkim FC in the previous round, when they take on Shillong Lajong FC in the concluding round of the I-League at Kalyani Stadium on Sunday (May 12).

East Bengal’s chances of retaining the second position are remote as they have to depend on the result of Pune FC, who currently occupy the second position in the league standings.

“We want to finish on a winning note. We play at home and would like to continue the winning habit, which will also be helpful as we play the AFC Cup pre-quarterfinals three days later,” said Trevor James Morgan, the East Bengal coach.

“We do not have any major injury problems and the boys are keyed up to give their best and go for the maximum points,” Morgan said. East Bengal are currently placed third with 47 points from 25 matches.

“Our team did not do well in the away matches and that made us slip down the standings.

Even our opponents East Bengal could not perform that well in their away outings which saw them going out of the title race. We will look for a win tomorrow and try to make a successful finish,” said Shillong Lajong FC coach Thangboi  Singto.

“We remained under the relegation threat for some time but we are now out of it. The players will not be under pressure and can play freely. We would like to make a better finish in the final league standings by bagging a win,” Singto said. Shillong Lajong are currently placed 11th with 25 points from as many matches.
