IMPHAL, Jun 2: UVSA, Chajing claimed the title of the 15th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament after edging out FC, Imphal 8-5 in penalty shoot-out at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
With neither side scoring in regulation period of the title match, tie-breaker was applied in which eight penalty takers from the Chajing side emerged successful out of 11 shots each compared to only five FC veterans finding the mark. closing ceremony of the tournament organised by Manipur Veteran Football Association was held with Parliamentary Secretary of MOBC Md amin shah, Thanga AC MLA T Mangibabu Singh and social worker Luwangthem Tarpon Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The champions and runners-up teams were presented Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively while individual prize winners pocketed Rs 2000 each. The cash prizes were donated by individuals in memory of their near and dear ones.
