Happy Homecoming for Melroy Fernandes

NEW DELHI, July 1: Melroy Fernandes, Goa’s Santosh Trophy Goalkeeper made a return to Sporting Clube de Goa from current I-League Champions Churchill Brothers Sports Club.

“I had a very good time at Churchill Brothers and learnt a lot from veteran Goalkeeper Felix d’Souza. At the same time I’ve have watched Sporting Goa promote lot of their talented junior players and that has encouraged me to return back to the Club,” Melroy stated after completing his signing.

After representing Salgaocar in the U-16 Category, Melroy had moved on to Sporting Clube de Goa where he Captained the Flaming Oranje to win the GFA U-18 Title in 2010. Melroy was subsequently transferred to Churchill Brothers.

Welcoming back Melroy to his old Club, Sporting Clube de Goa President Mr. Peter Vaz believed he would turn out to be a “real asset.”

“We are very happy to have Melroy Fernandes back at the Club and firmly believe that with his leadership and dedication, he would become a real asset,” Mr. Vaz said.

The 21- year old Goalkeeper who hails from Dramapur was even scouted at the start of the Season playing in an Exhibition Match and offered a Trial in Macau with Casa de Portugal.
