Imphal, June 30: Thousands of football lovers turned up to witness the much awaited Football Exhibition Match of Football Players' Association of India (FPAI) XI led by Baichung Bhutia and Chargers XI led by Potsangbam Renedy Singh at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.
To have a glance of their favourite Indian soccer stars, who played in the match, excited fans gathered at the stadium much before commencement of the play.
The exhibition, which was organised by Manipur Development Society (MDS) in association with All Manipur Football Association and Football Edges, Kolkata, begun with an opening play between All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) Junior XI and MDS Junior XI. AMFA XI defeated MDS 3-0. Just after the opening match FPAI XI played with MDS XI, Baichung's team edged out Renedy's team 1-0.
Extending his gratitude to organizers for taking the pain in conducting such exhibition match, Baichung, former Indian Captain, said that Manipur is one of the prolific states in India for sportspersons and such an event would surely provide impetus to young football players.
