Monsang Pantha YC lifts Phantu Cup trophy

Chandel, Oct 19: Monsang Pantha Youth Club lifted the trophy of Ist Phantu Cup Football Tournament, 2013, a district level football tournament, defeating its opponent team Phunchung Youth Club 2-0 in the final match played at the ground of Maha Union Govt. Higher Secondary School, Japhou here in Chandel on Friday.

The first goal of the match came from Monsang Pantha’s striker Ts Anthony (Jersey No 15) in the 22nd minute of the play. Monsang Pantha added another goal in the 45th minute when Ts Pearson (Jersey No 9) kicked a goal into the net of the opponent team.

Phunchung Youth Club launched good attacks. However, all the attempts were failed as most of the shots went wide or hit the bar only. Lh Salem (Jersey No12) of Phunchung was booked for foul play in the 57th minute of the match.

Before the kick off of the final match, closing ceremony  of the tournament organized by LYCC was held during which MLA of 41- Chandel  A/C St Victor Nunghlung and Social worker Ws Kanral Wangshol Anal attended as the Chief Guest and Special Invitee respectively.

Dignitaries on dais also included President of Chandel District Bar Association Rt Rebirthson apart from Pastors, Chiefs and other distinguished guests and invitees.

A cultural dance was performed by LYCC during the function, and a beautiful Choreography was presented by ACI students. A One-minute silent prayer and gun salute to the departed souls of the Phantu (Lambung) village players and speeches by VIPs were some of the main highlights of the closing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Ws Kanral Wangshol Anal announced that he would donate the Championship prize for the next Phantu Cup 2014 as an encouragement to LYCC for hosting such a tournament.
About 3000 football fans and spectators gathered at the playground to witness the closing function and the final match.

Wangshol Kanral gave away the prizes and awards to the Champion team of Monsang Pantha Youth which walked away home with a cash prize of Rs 20,000, a rolling trophy and a certificate. Runner up team Phunchung was given a cash prize of Rs 10000, a take away trophy and certificates.

In the individual category award, Best goalkeeper was bagged by Ts Beningthar of Monsang Pantha, top scorer award by Lh Larny of Phunchung Club and Best player by Sh Shongningthar of Japhou Village.
