IMPHAL, Mar 2: On the occasion of 100th birth anni- versary of late Maj Bob Khathing, 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) organised Late Major Bob Khathing Memorial Fo-otball Championship 20-12 at TNL ground in Ukhrul Town from Feb 28 to March 2, an IGAR (S) release said.
A total of 9 Football clubs/teams from different parts of Ukhrul district participated with great enthu- siasm.
The tournament kick started on February 28 amid much fanfare. HQ 10 Sect AR in loving memory and honour of late Maj Bob Khathing had invited John SR Khathing, s/o late Maj Bob Khathing as the chief Guest and Ram Muivah, IAS Principal Secretary, PWD and construction works, Govt of Manipur as Guest of Honour on March 1 for unveiling of trophy, along with district officials viz Kabib K, SP Ukhrul, it said.
The competition saw so-me superb sporting talents with Ukhrul Football Club (UFC) defeating team Wi-notang Ukhrul by 1-0. The event involved speeches by Commander, 10 Sector AR, John Kha-thing and Ram Muivah, IAS, it stated.

U-16 state level boy’s football tournament
IMPHAL, Mar 2: In the opening day match of the Birachandra Football Academy U-16 state level boy’s football tournament at BFA ground, Taobungkhok, TYA Thinungei won over YWC Malom by 4-0 goals; Ph. Naobi scored two goals, N. Bijoy and H. Anand one each.
Manipur bashed Nagaland by 4-1 goals in today’s match of Dr. T. Ao memorial football tournament at Gangtok, Sikkim. L. Gouro got the hat trick by scoring 3 goals in a row and Naoton scored one goal. In another match between Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, both the team scored 2-2 goals and ended the match as a draw. Manipur will be playing against Tripura on March 4, 2012.
