Afghan footballer beats up Indian ref

New Delhi: Things went awry in the Subroto Cup on Friday as a visiting Afghani player physically assaulted the match referee Armughan Rowan in protest of a red card the referee had produced minutes earlier.

Armughan Rowan, who is going to be included in the AFC Elite Panel soon, was bleeding profusely and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was administered six stitches on his upper lip before he was released.

The Afghans lost the quarter finals 0-2 against a Ukraine-based team.
Shejauddin of Steqlal High School, attacked Rowan and started beating him over a red card given to one of his teammates just before the full time whistle. Assistant referee CR Singha was forced to supervise the last few minutes of the match as Rowan was out of shape following the assault.

The AIFF head of referees Gautam Kar told The Telegraph, “Subroto Cup is not affiliated to AIFF. But if a report comes to us officially, we will take necessary steps.”(source: Sports Keeda )
