State women players of SAFF trophy winning Indian team feliciated

IMPHAL, September 30: The All Manipur Football Association today organized a reception of the women footballers and coach from the state who had participated in the 2nd SAFF Women’s Football tournament” at Colombo recently.

The Indian team which was captained by O Bembem Devi had defeated the Nepal team by 3-1 in the final to lift the trophy.

There were seven state players and three others from the state representing other states in the successful Indian team.

The function was held at the All Manipur Sports Association, meeting hall at Mapal Kangjeibung on Sunday.

The seven players playing under the state association are O Bembem (captain), K Rebecca, A Romi, L Ashalata, I Prameshwori, Y Premi and S Reena Roy.

The three others from the state and representing other states are Y Kamala, L Naobi Chanu and N Monteshwori. All three are playing for Bihar.

M Surmala Chanu acted as the asst coach of the Indian team during the tournament.

Speaking during the function, Indian team captain O Bembem said she has been in the field of football for more than 15 years now.

And with such experiences, she knows what her players can do and try to overlook everything, she said.

She continued that she would like to play for the state for another two three years more.

She continued that her team scored 36 goals during the tournament with the players from the state contributing a lot.

Today’s function was also attended by AMSA president A Helim Choudhury (retd IAS) and other office bearers of the association.

The AMFA also handed token of gifts to the players and the asst coach as encouragement.
