SHILLONG, Nov 28: Shillong Lajong Football Club earned full points in the round eight match of the I-League defeating in form Pailan Arrows 3-1 here at the JN Sports Complex.
Lajong took an early lead before the tourists could settle down and it was Sushil Kumar Singh who neatly headed home the areal cross set up by Jacob Lalrawngbawla from the left flank in the 3rd minute of the game.
In the 19th minute of the game Jacob Lalrawngbawla’s powerful shot re-bounced hitting the bar. Had the shot been an inch down the lead would have been different.
In the 30th minute the effort of Friday Gbeneme, skipper Renedy Singh and Sushil Singh went in a vain as the last touch made by Sushil went for out.
It was only in the 40th minute of the game that Pailan Arrows really made an effort in the in the goalmouth area when Alwyn George set the ball for Prabir Das, whose shot went inches wide.
At the end of the first half the score card was reading 1-0. In the 49th minute Lalchhuanmawia set the ball inside the 24 yard arena for Sushil who made it 2-0 effortelessly.
In the 52nd minute of the game Friday Gbeneme scored off skipper Renedy Singh’s flag kick and made the score card read 3-0.
However, in the 65th minute of the game midfielder D. Ganesh taking a long range shot lobbed the ball over Lajong custodian Lalthuammawia Ralte and reduced the margin.
Lajong’s North Korean defender Minchol Son was later judged the man of the match for his outstanding performance in the defence line.
