CK Vineeth struck soon after resumption, but that was the only goal the Kolkata side could find on a chilly evening at the Balewadi Stadium. The full points for Pune FC helped the home team rose up to the No 3 position with 23 points from 11 matches, while Prayag stay at No 5 with 17 points from 12 matches.
Pune FC was at ease on home turf with their star striker James Moga making his intention clear very early in the match. Though Prayag made inroads at the start forcing goalkeeper Abhra Mondal to commit foul inside the box, but Pune FC parried the danger.
In the counter-attack Khanthang Paite collected a long pass before finding the net, but was flagged offside. The home team pushed forward nonetheless and were rewarded when Moga found the net in the eighth minute.
Moga attacked the ball and even as Anupam Sarkar challenged him on the outside, the Sudanese striker moved in and let a scorcher fly past Gouramangi Singh before beating goalkeeper Subrata Paul for 1-0 lead.
His exuberance saw him picking a yellow card, but coach Derrick Pereira wouldn’t mind that considering Moga had done his job well.
Prayag made another try when Ranti Martins took the ball all through but Mondal was well in command to stop the long ranger in the 12th minute. Soon after Karma Tsewang attacked from the right and after getting better of a defender, his shot went straight to Paul.
Douhou Pierre was at it then in the 16th minute that earned Pune FC a corner on the right. Paite’s flag-kick was too long, but Chika Wali controlled the ball on the left flank before sending a cross to Othallo Tabia inside the box. Tabia beat everyone in the air with a looped header for 2-0 lead.

With Pune FC taking two-goal lead Prayag United players got nervy and tried to hustle Moga, who fell down with a thud on the edge of the box. But play resumed only to see Mumtaz Akhtar bringing down CS Vineeth.
On the ensuing free-kick, Lalkamal Bhowmick sent the ball just wide of the post as Mondal stretched fully in the right direction.
Pune FC again took the initiative with Izumi Arata getting clear on the left before sending a low cross to Moga, who rushed inside the box. But Moga’s first time attempt went wide at the near post.

On resumption, Prayag United was spurred by Ranti Martin’s move from the right. Though his shot was saved by Mondal, the ball rebounded and fell in front of CK Vineeth, who finished the job with ease.
