Grass-root steps of football beginning to show results

Imphal, June 28: Seeing the decline of the standard of football in Manipur, efforts are being taken up to revive the past glorious level of football in the state.

Grassroots programmes are being organised frequently, with the aim to reap a new generation of talented footballers from the state. Foreign coaches have been rope in for various football camps, that was organised by AMFA in association many other bodies.

Results of these efforts can be seen slowly. The most recent is the stupendous performance showed by the young footballers of the state, representing BMSC at the Manchester United Football Tournament held in Kualalumpur, Malaysia.

Today also, we are also bringing you brief profiles of the footballers, who will represent the MDS Chargers XI team in the exhibition match to be held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on June 30.

Potsangbam Renedy Singh, or simply Renedy Singh, needs no introduction to the people of Manipur.  One of the greatest football exports from the state so far, he has been proving his talent in the national and international scene time and again. This mid-fielder was born on September 20, 1979. Currently, he is playing for Shillong Lajong in the I-League. Dhanachandra Singh was born March 3, 1990. This talented young player played for Prayag United in the last season. Before that, he played for Prayag United. He was also announced in the probables for the India versus Palestine friendly match.

Another footballer to look out is Yumnam Raju, who was born on July 3, 1989. For the last few seasons, he has been playing for Churchill Brothers SC, which was the I-League winner team in 2012-2013 season.

Lalit Thapa is also a talent who has some good experience to his mettle. Born on August 12, 1984, this Nepali-player has played for the last few seasons for Churchill Brothers, and in the I-League winning season recently. He also played at the AFC 2013. (The People's Chronicle)
