MDS set to ready for exhibition football match on June 30

Imphal, June 26: Manipur Development Society (MDS) in association with All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) and Football Edge, Kolkatta is organising an exhibition football match on June 30 at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
Organised under the theme ‘Friendship and Development of Youths, the high-adrenaline match will be played between Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) and MDS Chargers XI. India’s former captain Baichung Bhutia will lead the former while Manipuri’s own Renedy Singh will lead the later.
MDS in association with AMFA is organising a two-month long residential football programme. It was commenced from May 1 and aims to develop the skills of the football players of the state. The programme is designed for the young players ranging from 15-18 years. The objective of the programme is to develop skill and tactics, physical and mental conditioning, to provide exposure and to impart knowledge on emerging trends of football practices to the budding players of the state.
For the programme, AMFA invited 120 targeted players from its 13 district associations. Out of the 60 shortlisted players, 30 players were finally selected by the foreign coach himself for conducting the Development Programme.
The British coach Stephen David Darby is a reputed international coach from Liverpool, England. At the end of the Steve David Darby’s stint as chief coach, Mila Milonovic, an Australian A License holder, will be conducting the programme till the end. The exhibition match of June 30 will be held as a part of this programme. The Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) is the single body for representing the interests and welfare for all the football players in India. Started in 2006, FPAI became a member of the World Organisation for players FIFPro in 2008. Baiching Bhutia is the president of the association while many other senior international players of India are on the committee.
Other famous players in the team include Subrata Paul, Debabrata Paul, Nirmal Chettri, Lalrindika Ralte among many others. On the other hand, MDS Chargers XI comprised of footballers originally from the state of Manipur who have played outside the state representing many clubs of India and in international platforms as well. Renedy Singh, who is considered as one of the best midfielder in Indian Football, will lead the team. Other famous names include Surkumar Singh, Gouramangi Singh, James Singh, Tomba Singh, Sushil Kumar Singh among many others. Two matches will be played on this day. The first match will start at 1 pm and the second will start from 3 pm. The ticket rate for the matches is Rs 500 for VIP Gallery and Rs 100 for General category.
