IMPHAL, July 17: “Bajaj Allianz Junior football camp 2013-season 4” was held at NEROCA ground at Shangakpam (Chingmei-rong) today to select State footballers of 14 to 16 years of age for participation in a monthlong training at the football academy of Bayern Munich, the European and Bundesliga Champions and one of the renowned football clubs in the world.
The Bajaj Allianz (Insurance company) sponsored trial selection held today was participated by around 300 players from different parts of the State. The selection programme was conducted under the supervision NEROCA coaches S Premkanta and Ibomcha.
Bajaj Allianz branch manager N Romesh said that the trial selection had commenced in Manipur from last year though similar initiatives had started in other States more than four years back.
Two players were selected from the first camp in Manipur last year, and this time three players will be selected, who will then participate in a trial selection at Kolkata in the first week of August along with other players shortlisted from other States. The Kolkata edition of the trial will shortlist five players, to join the monthlong training at Bayern Munich.
Moreover, when the players return to India after the completion of the training, country’s renowned football club Mohan Bagan will offer them free coaching and subsequently have the opportunity to be absorbed as Mohan Bagan players.
Conveying that Bajaj Allianz has been conducting the camp as a part of its project to contribute its mite to the society other than focussing on insurance business, Romesh said the company is planning to conduct music and fashion shows in the State in the near future.
