India’s free kick specialist Potsangbam Renedy Singh Monday donned on Shillong Lajong Football Club (SLFC) for the Indian-league (I-league).

However, Renedy is unlikely to feature in his debut match for his new club, Shillong Lajong Wednesday (Jan 18) against the strong Goan-side, the Churchill Brothers in Shillong.

“His induction into the team would definitely boost our confidence. With his varied experience not only in India but also abroad, I am sure that Lajong would be a better team,” said Pradhyum Reddy, the Shillong Lajong coach.

Reddy, however, said that Singh’s first game for SLFC is uncertain due to an injury. Though, Renedy was seen practicing Monday afternoon with his new team mates at the newly-laid artificial green turf at the Jawahralal Nehru Sports complex, he candidly admitted, “I am yet to be 100 per cent fit.”

Renedy, the top scorer in India’s dismal 2006 World Cup qualification campaign with two goals, had last played for Baichung Bhutia’s Sikkim United in the I-League second division last season after representing India in 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

The Manipur-born dead ball specialist had undergone trials at Norwegian side Tromsø IL in Tippeligaen last Oct. Wednesday’s I-league home match for SLFC in its own home town after the government had laid the astro-turf at the complex. Earlier, Reddy’s boys had played their I-league home matches at Imphal and Guwahati due to the construction of the football ground at Jawahralal Nehru Sports complex.

After Wednesday’s match, the first in Shillong after the commencement of I-League in October last, SLFC  will face Dempo Sports Club on January 22 to be followed by the match with Pune F.C. on January 28.
